Blue Bunny Guilty Conscience
"Chocolate Ice Cream Swirled with a Peanut Butter Ribbon and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups"
Ice Cream Cone Up KRIS - I continue to support Blue Bunny's container design. It's the same "almost half-gallon size" like the other brands, but it's skinny and fits really well in to freezer doors (easy access). Guilty Conscience mixes peanut butter and chocolate, one of my favorite combos but they missed the mark when it came to the peanut butter ribbon. The peanut butter is not sweetened. Remember when you got a Palmer's Easter PB-Choc treat instead of Brach's? Yeah, like that. Disappointing. The chocolate tasted more like regular milk chocolate instead of dark (but Fred thinks that's because I think anything is watered down if it's not 70% cocoa). The saving grace were the peanut butter cups. They were very tasty and a good sized chunk. This was barely a cone up for me.
Ice Cream Cone Up FRED - How can you not love an ice cream described with so much chocolate and peanut butter? The picture on the container certainly made it that much more attractive. I love Blue Bunny's "Fresh Lock," but I question the "Critic's Choice." Who are these critics? Do tell! There was some shrinkage and I didn't really see the ribbon or peanut butter cups initially, but the ice cream has an overall peanut butter cup taste. It makes me wonder why they didn't just call it "Peanut Butter Cup" ice cream. Oh well, it was still really good and I'd buy it again.

I love containers that can fit into my freezer door! Yeah, yeah...ice cream is supposed to be stored in the coldest part of your freezer, but in my mind, I think it's more important for the container to be accessible! Blue Bunny has changed their containers so that you can have this treat at your fingertips when opening the freezer. What's also great is that they are trying to patent their new fresh lock container. This lid snaps back on like a Tupperware top to keep it nice and snug. Hopefully, this is a step closer to keeping out unwanted freezer burn. The only promise Blue Bunny makes is that the seal "locks in freshness." I supposed it's a step toward ice cream not taking on any other funky freezer smells.

I do have to say one more thing about the container. Blue Bunny rounded the edges of their cartons. I found this to be a wonderful aid when getting into the (non)corners with an ice cream scoop. All ice cream was accessible! (There's that word again!)

Blue Bunny Toffee Temptation has been offered for a limited time. It reads, "Vanilla Ice Cream with Heath Toffee Chunks swirled with Caramel Sauce." The exterior of the container promises scoop after scoop of overloaded ice cream. In reality, the chunks of Heath are not as big as they are in the picture on the container (although a few are) and the scoops are not overloaded with "stuff." The ice cream is however the same color in reality as on the container.

The vanilla has an aftertaste much like Breyers; which I am not fond of and there is just enough caramel mixed into the ice cream. The caramel is smooth in texture and faint; giving just the right amount of caramel taste. You won't find pools of caramel in this mix. Any more caramel or toffee would make this ice cream too sweet.

I think the Heath/toffee lover will really like this ice cream.
Somehow, Blue Bunny kept the Heath Bar bits crunchy within the ice cream. I thought this was great; although the Heath does tend to get stuck in your teeth. This is a small sacrifice we all should make.

I definitely like the new Blue Bunny containers. It makes Blue Bunny ice cream look like it's a more mainstream ice cream than it did with their old containers. It's amazing what a change in packaging can do for a customer's perception.

Beyond the new Blue Bunny ice cream packaging, the container of Blue Bunny "Limited Edition Toffee Temptation" ice cream had a nice looking picture of what was waiting for us inside and it looked delicious. I also liked the promise of real HEATH bar pieces inside!

When we opened the Blue Bunny "Limited Edition Toffee Temptation" container, there was some shrinkage and the ice cream looked a bit boring. There were no chunks or swirls or anything in sight. This definitely did not look like the ice cream pictured on the container. In fact, it looked closer to vanilla ice cream than it did an ice cream that was supposedly loaded with goodies.

Thankfully, looks are not always as they seem. After a few scoops of Blue Bunny "Limited Edition Toffee Temptation" were dished out, it was clear that this ice cream was loaded after all. The ice cream certainly tasted good, but I was expecting a stronger taste; it was milder than expected. There were good amounts of HEATH bar in every scoop and spoonful of ice cream and there were also good amounts of caramel.

All in all, Blue Bunny "Limited Edition Toffee Temptation" was a surprisingly good ice cream. Despite my initial disappointment when we opened the container, this ice cream is loaded and tastes very good. I would certainly eat more of this ice cream, but it ends up being a bit on the sweet side (much like real toffee). Still, if I'm in the mood for some toffee, Blue Bunny "Limited Edition Toffee Temptation" would make a nice fill-in and give me the joy of eating ice cream at the same time.
